Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On an orange circular shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/16 inch (0.16 cm) dark blue border, a dark blue stylized demi Vaquero riding a horse facing right, detailed green and orange, all within a circular orange designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) dark blue border, with the inscription RIO GRANDE VALLEY at top and below VAQUEROS between two small discs, all dark blue. Overall diameter is 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm).


Symbolism

The Vaquero, a cowboy, is the mascot of the school and is associated with cattle herding in the State of Texas. Orange, dark blue and green are the schools colors.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved on 14 September 1982.  It was amended to change the coloring in the design on 23 August 1990, currently a new design is authorized on 17 October 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-269)

Description

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Tenn, a chevron reversed Argent, in chief a mullet Vert. Attached below the shield, a Blue scroll inscribed with LIFELONG LEADERS in Silver.

       

Symbolism

Orange, blue and green are the schools colors. The chevron reversed alludes to the letter V, signifying Vaqueros, the school mascot, as well as the Rio Grande Valley. The solitary star is in tribute to Texas, the Lone Star State.


Background

The shoulder loop Insignia was originally authorized on 14 September 1982, it is hereby cancelled due to a new design on 17 October 2016.
