Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a white vertical rectangular shaped embroidered item, arched convexly at top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, a stylized blue lion standing on hind leg, outlined and detailed white, outer outlined Blue. Attached above the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border inscribed JOHN TYLER in blue letters. Attached below the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border inscribed LIONS in blue letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Blue and white are the school colors. The lion is the schools mascot depicted rising up to defend its honor and pride. This illustrates the cadets strong allegiance to the principles of great leadership in school and the community.

Description

A Silver colored metal and enamel shield shaped device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows: Quarterly, Sable and Argent, in the first quarter a mullet of the second; in the second quarter an open book surmounted by a torch palewise Argent (Silver), in the third quarter a rose Gules leaved Vert and in the fourth quarter, a winged foot bend sinisterwise of the third, toes downwards. Attached above the shield, a Blue scroll inscribed JOHN TYLER and attached below the shield, a Blue scroll inscribed LION BATTALION in silver.


Symbolism

Royal blue and white are the school colors. The quartering of the shield comprises the esprit de corps of John Tyler High School: the star alludes to Texas flag, the schools home state: the red rose represents Tyler, Texas, as the Rose Capital; the open book and torch symbolize education and enlightenment; and the  winged foot signifies athletics.
