Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a silver vertical rectangular shape embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom  edged with an 1/8 inches (0.32 cm) blue border, a white chevron reversed; overall a blue stylized Vikings head  couped facing right, eye in white. Attached above a silver scroll edged with a 1/8 (.32 cm) blue border inscribed ECSU in blue. Attached below a silver scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border inscribed VIKINGS in blue letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) width.


Symbolism

The Viking is the schools mascot; embodying the warrior spirit and passion of the students and instructors. The reversed chevron is indicative of military affiliation and also resembles the letter V for Vikings. Blue and white are the schools colors.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 4 March 1983. It was cancelled due to a new design on 22 December 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-270)

Description

On a shield shaped Silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Azure, a pile Argent; overall a demi battle axe issuant from base Argent (Silver Gray), all within a diminished bordure of the last. Attached below the shield, a Red scroll inscribed with TO LIVE IS TO LEARN in Silver.


Symbolism

The battle axe is indicative of Vikings, a tribute to the schools mascot. The pile resembles the letter V for Vikings. Blue and white are the schools colors. 


Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 20 October 1983.  It was cancelled due to a new design on 22 December 2016.
