Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a blue disc a white representation of the entrance to the Rutherford County Courthouse detailed black and gray surrounded by a red designation band fimbriated white edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border and inscribed RUTHERFORD COUNTY in white letters arcing above three yellow stars in base.  The overall dimension is 3 3/6 inches (8.10 cm) in diameter.


Symbolism

The red, white and blue pattern of the insignia suggests the state of Tennessee Flag and reflects the cadets patriotism to state and county.  The representation of the county courthouse symbolizes the cadets dedication and pride in their community.  The stars represents knowledge, leadership and physical preparedness of the cadets.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 29 September 92. It was amended due to a new design on 29 July 1996, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 1 December 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-514)

Description

A Silver colored metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows:  Purpure, a pile in sinister bendwise Vert, superimposed upon the  line of division, in chief a sword point to dexter and in base a rifle throughout, muzzle upwards, all Or, overall and in center a bulldogs head Argent (silver).  Attached to the sides and below a tripartite Silver scroll inscribed SMYRNA, HIGH, SCHOOL all in Purple letters.


Description
Purple and gold are the school colors.  The pile (diagonal wedge) alludes to the stone River where its two forks join, the geographic location of the school.  The bulldog is the schools mascot.

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 22 July 1968, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 1 December 2016.
