Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a maroon rectangle arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, a white wildcats face detailed black above the inscription LOUISVILLE arcing in base in white letters.  The overall dimension are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Maroon and white are the school colors.  The wildcat is the schools mascot.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 17 October 1995.  It is amended to include an updated manufacturing drawing on 4 January 2017.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-409)

Description

A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield supporting a silver open book blazoned:  Per fess, per pale Gules and Argent and Sanguine, in dexter chief a Greek helm of the second and in sinister chief a lamp Red; in base, a wildcats face Silver.  Attached below the shield, a silver scroll inscribed WHERE WINNING BEGINS in red letters.    


Symbolism

Maroon and white (silver) are the school colors.  The ancient helmet denotes the importance of military history in the annals of the world.  The lamp and open book symbolize the cadets academic interest and pursuit of knowledge.  The wildcat reflects the cadets school and community dedication and spirit.
