Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a yellow disc shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) green border.  A green Norman shield displaying  the monogrammed LPB at top and HS below in yellow letters, the shield is between two yellow scrolls, edged black, with the inscription  ESTABLISHED to the left and 1895 to the right, in black letters.  Attached above the shield, a black torse surmounted by a black jackrabbit, eyed yellow. The overall diameter is 3 inches (7.62cm).


Symbolism

Green and gold are the school colors. The jackrabbit is the schools mascot.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 19 February 1965. It was amended to add subdued colors and metric measurements on 20 July 1992, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 27 September 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-271)

Description

A silver colored metal and epoxied shield shaped device, 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows:  Vert, two wavy bars Or, overall a torch throughout superimposed upon the staff by escallop shell Argent (Silver) bearing the seal of Long Beach, between  in chief an open book and the representation of the California National Guard State Crest of the last, garnished Vert.


Symbolism

Green and Gold (yellow) are the school colors. The open book and torch represent the pursuit of knowledge, the state crest and city seal identify the schools location. The wavy bar symbolizes water referring to the nearby Pacific Ocean. 


Background

The shoulder loop Insignia was originally authorized on 19 February 1965.  It was amended to revise the description and to include a symbolism on 23 July 1984, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 27 September 2016.
