Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a black circular embroidered item, cut off horizontally at base, a white English bulldog facing to the front, with black details and red collar; all within a red circular designation band, edged with an 1/8 inch (.32cm) black border, with the inscription UNIVERSITY at top and OF GEORGIA stacked below, all in white letters. Overall dimension is 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in diameter.


Symbolism

Red and black are the school colors.  The bulldog is the schools mascot.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 23 September 1955.  It was amended to add subdued colors and meteric measurement on 18 June 1992, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 1 November 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-90)

Shoulder Loop Insignia

Description

A shield shaped Silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Gules, a pile reversed Sable, overall a representation of an archway of three columns Argent (Silver). Attached to the each side and below the shield, a Silver scroll, inscribed in Latin ET DOCERE ET RERUM EXQUIRERE CAUSAS, in black letters, which translates to To Teach and To Inquire into Nature of things.


Symbolism

Red and black are the school colors.  The archway is the traditional symbol of both the university and the State of Georgia.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 12 April 1935.  It was cancelled due to a new design on 4 October 1978, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 1 November 2016.
