Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a silver gray vertical rectangular shape embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border, a stylized demi Scottish Rebel facing front Proper. Attached above the rectangle, a yellow scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border inscribed ROBERT W. GROVES in black. Attached below the rectangle, a yellow scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) inscribed SCOTTISH REBELS in black. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.86 cm) width.


Symbolism

The Scottish Rebel is the schools mascot; symbolic of freedom and liberty.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 28 July 1978.  It is hereby cancelled due a new design with an updated description and symbolism on 15 March 2017. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-1159).

Description

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Sable, a saltire Or, surmounted by a sword in pale of the second, point downwards, garnished of the first. Attached below the shield a black scroll inscribed GROVES IS GREAT, in gold.


Symbolism

The saltire recalls St. Andrews cross, featured on the flag of Scotland, to allude to the schools mascot of the Scottish Rebels. The sword suggests leadership, training, and setting the standard for others to follow.
