Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped embroidered item with a semicircular base and arched convexly at the top, blazoned as follows; Gules, three chevrons fretted Argent, surmounted by two daggers chevronwise reversed, blades arched Argent (Silver Gray), hilt and hand guard Sable, overall a sword in pale, point upwards, blade and hand guard of the second, hilt of the third. Attached above the shield a white scroll arched convexly at the top, inscribed LOWELL in scarlet letters, all edged with a 1/8 (.32 cm) scarlet border. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Red, white and black reflect the colors of the school.  The sword and the daggers signify military training. The chevrons symbolize readiness and strength.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 4 May 1982.  It was cancelled due to a new design on 20 April 1989, it is currently being updated to include manufacturing drawings and ACU colored versions on 1 June 2017 (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-134).
