Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a gold vertical rectangular-shaped embroidered item arched convexly at the top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) gold brown border, two black crosiers diagonally crossed, surmounted by a vertical stylized sword, in the center, point to base, hilt, details and outline black, blade, guard, and pommel silver. Attached above the rectangle a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch gold brown border inscribed MARCOS DE NIZA in black letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Gold and brown are the school colors. The crosiers were staffs carried by religious men symbolizing the schools mascot, the Padre, which is a representation of Franciscan friar Marcos de Niza, who led an expedition in 1539 searching for the legendary Seven Golden Cities of  Cibola. The sword suggests strength, courage and school pride.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 20 November 1981, it is currently being updated to include manufacturing drawings and ACU color versions on 20 May 2017. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-1165)

Description

A gold color metal and epoxied shield shaped device, 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height, blazoned as follows: Tenn, a stylized demi-friar affront Or, details and edged Brn. Attached above the shield a brown scroll inscribed PADRES in gold letters.


Symbolism

Gold and brown are the school colors. The Padre is the schools mascot, a representation of Franciscan friar Marcos de Niza, who led an expedition in 1539 searching for the legendary Seven Golden Cities of Cibola. The mascot not only highlights the historical background of the community, but the pride and strength of the school.
