Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a red arrowhead shaped embroidered item point up edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) red border a blue palm tree bending to the wind, its trunk between two horizontal white bars; all between the inscriptions MANATEE arcing above and HURRICANES below in white.   The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Red, white and blue are the national colors and have been adopted by Manatee High School as well. The palm tree bending in the wind implies the force of a hurricane, the schools nickname.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized on 18 September 1996, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversion on 20 June 2017 (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-517).

Description

A silver colored metal and epoxied vertical rectangular device, 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of quartered section; in first and fourth quarters on a white background with crested blue waves, in silver arcing palm trees; in second and third quarter a representation of a hurricane storm flag, red background surmounted by a black vertical rectangle.  Attached below a silver scroll inscribed MANATEE in blue letters.


Symbolism

Red, white (silver) and blue are the school colors. The schools nickname is the Hurricanes as suggested by the storm warning flags. The bent palm trees in the hurricane wind symbolize the strength of the cadets in their dedication to serve school, community and country.
