Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a gray embroidered disc, edged blue, an orange tiger head garnished white, detailed blue, with red tongue, all within gray designation band edged with a blue narrow border,  and inscribed LOS LUNAS above and HIGH SCHOOL below in blue letters, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) orange border. The overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62cm) in diameter.


Symbolism

Blue, orange and white are the school colors.  The Tiger is the schools mascot, which symbolizes strength, endurance and intelligence.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 8 May 1997, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversions on 18 July 2017.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-549)

Description

On a shield shaped Silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, a pile reversed Tenn, the point couped, superimposed with a barrulet couped, in chief a heraldic tiger passant guardant and in base six columns above a staircase, all Argent (Silver).  Attached below the shield, a silver scroll inscribed AD ASTRA PER ASPERA, in Blue.


Symbolism

Blue, orange and white are the school colors. The tiger is the schools mascot. The six columns represent trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship, the schools six Values of Character. The staircase indicates the cadets desire to achieve those values. The Latin phrase AD ASTRA PER ASPERA translates to To the Stars through Difficulties.
