Purple and gold are the Universitys colors. The panther is the mascot of the university.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 31 January 1983, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and the ACU color conversion on 9 March 2017. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-281)
A gold colored metal and epoxied shield device, 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows: Purpure, a sword palewise, point upwards, above a laurel wreath Or. Attached below the shield, a purple scroll inscribed LUX in gold.
