Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) dark blue border blazoned as follows; Gules, issuant from dexter chief a stylized trident Argent, the shaft angled to sinister, throughout. Attached above the shield, a red scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) dark blue border, inscribed LUGOFF-ELGIN in white. The Overall dimensions are 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Dark blue and cardinal red are the school colors. The trident alludes to the schools mascot, derived by early Native Americans belief which the Blue Demons inhabited the river.

Blazon

On a gold metal and epoxied shield shaped device 11/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Per saltire Azure and Gules, issuing from base a demi-trident Sable enflamed Or. Attached to each side and below the shield, a gold tri-parted scroll inscribed “LUGOFF, DEMONS, ELGIN” in blue letters.


Symbolism

Royal blue and red are the school colors. Red connotes energy and enthusiasm, a characteristic of the cadets. Royal blue balances the extreme red with its representation of sophistication and intelligence. The trident symbolizes the school’s mascot, “the Demons,” also points to local Native American legends of demons roaming the banks of the nearby Wateree River.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia was approved on 22 January 2021.
