Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a yellow vertical rectangular shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border, arced at the top and bottom. A stylized maroon fox head, with yellow details, below the arched inscription MARION H.S in maroon letters.


Symbolism

The schools colors are maroon and gold. The fox head represents the mascot, a Swamp Fox, the nickname of the schools namesake, Revolutionary War hero, General Francis Marion.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) originally authorized on 22 November 1993, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversions on 25 September 2017. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-317)

Description

On a vertical rectangular shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height arced at the top and bottom, and divided diagonally from upper right to lower left, gray over blue and blazoned as follows: Argent (Silver Gray) and Azure per bend sinister, a fox couchant Brun, to dexter, between inscription SWAMP above and FOX below all in gold.


Symbolism

The gray represents the mist on the Pee Dee River, blue, symbolized the area where General Francis Marion, the schools namesake, eluded capture by the British during the Revolutionary War, thus acquired the nickname, The Swamp Fox, depicted by the fox. The swamp fox is the schools mascot.
