Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) purple border, blazoned as follows: Or, three stylized tiger claw marks palewise Purpure, claws Argent, points downwards, the centre bearing an eye of the third, pupil of the second. Attached above the item a gold scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) purple border inscribed UNION COUNTY in purple. The overall dimensions are 31/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 3/4 inches (6.99 cm) in width.


Symbolism

The colors and division of the shield allude to the schools mascot, the tiger. The eye of the tiger has the thrill of the fight, and rises up to the challenge of its rivals. Tigers are fierce, determined, and are a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Description

On a shield shaped Gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Quarterly Purpure and Or, a torch enflamed surmounted by a stylized open book in second and a stylized heart conjoined with a barbell in third of the first, overall a sword bendwise of the second, point to base. Attached below the shield, a Purple scroll inscribed with UNION in Gold.


Symbolism

The shield signifies defenders of freedom, while the sword suggests courage. The heart with the barbell alludes to the commitment to strengthening the mind and body. The open book and enflamed torch denote the pursuit of knowledge for a well-rounded individual. Purple and gold are the school colors.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia (SLI)  was authorized  on 1 December 2017.
