Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) scarlet border, blazoned as follows: Azure, a falcon wings displayed and inverted Proper clutching an shield blazoned: Gules, a pair of sabers in saltire, points upward Or. Attached above the item a dark blue scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) scarlet border inscribed GARRETT in scarlet.  The overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height by 3 3/8 inches (8.57 cm) in width.


Symbolism

The falcon is the mascot of the school since its inception in the early 1950s. The majestic falcon inspires confidence in the students for their endeavors in sports, academics, JROTC, and other extracurricular activities, as well as the ability to rise above any challenges. The escutcheon bearing crossed sabers alludes to the schools JROTC program. The school colors are colors red, white, and blue.

Description

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Per chevron Gules and Azure, in chief between a pallet Argent (Silver), in dexter a stylized magnifying lens and quill in saltire and in sinister issuant a demi torch enflamed and in base an open book bearing a pair of keys in saltire, wards upward, all of the third. Attached below the shield, a tri-parted black scroll doubled black inscribed FIGHTING FALCONS in Silver.


Symbolism

The magnifying lens and quill suggest the importance of research and pursuit of truth in all aspects of life. The torch is a guiding light, leading not only oneself but others as well. The crossed keys over the open book allude to knowledge and education are the keys to success.

The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 15 December 2017.
