Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a vertically rectangular shaped embroidered item 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in width, arced to top and bottom, divided horizontally through the center, scarlet and blue, above six yellow rays emitting from center, an orange star centered on the partition line, in base and covering the bottom of the star, a horizontal placed yellow oval garnished red, bearing a brown hawks head, facing to the right, eyes and beak yellow, detailed and outlined black; all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border.  Attached above the rectangle, a yellow scroll inscribed "RIO RICO in scarlet. Attached below rectangle, a yellow scroll inscribed "HAWKS" in scarlet.


Symbolism

The school colors are red and yellow. The Red Tailed Hawk is the schools mascot, which is the most prominent bird of prey in the local area. The background of the shoulder sleeve insignia is a representation of the Arizona flag, denoting the home state of the school.

Description

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Gules, a chief quarter point Or, a fillet saltire of the second between in chief a laurel wreath of the first surmounted by a dexter and sinister hands clasped of the second, detailed and sleeved of the first; in dexter a winged foot bendwise of the first; in sinister a paint palette and brushes superimposed by a lyre, all behind a drama mask of comedy, all of the second, garnished of the first and in base an unfurled scroll surmounted by a quill pen bendwise of the second detailed of the first. Crest: Above the shield, a demi torch Or, enflamed Gules. Attached to the sides and below the shield, a Red scroll inscribed RIO RICO to the left and HAWKS to the right, all Gold.


Symbolism

The division of the shield each represents the unity of the curriculum within Rio Rico High School - wreath and the clasping hands symbolize alludes to achievement of sportsmanship; the winged foot denotes athletics; the paint palette and brushes, lyre and drama mask of comedy illustrates the arts and he scroll and quill pen signifies scholastic excellence. The demi torch depicts the pursuit of knowledge.
