Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, blazoned as follows: Argent (Silver Gray) a Native American Chieftains head affront Proper, all edged and detailed Sable. Attached above the item a silver gray scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border inscribed MCCORMICK in black. The overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height by 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in width.


Symbolism

The Native American Chieftain is the schools mascot; it won the vote for the new mascot, when the schools two segregated schools united in 1971. Black, red and white are the school colors.

Description

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Potent counter potent Argent (Silver Gray) and Sable, on a pale Argent four lozenges palewise Gules. Attached below the shield, a red scroll doubled inscribed CHIEFTAIN PRIDE in Silver.


Symbolism

The background pattern of the shield recalls traditional Native American artwork, as well as alluding to the schools mascot of the Native American Chieftain. The alternating colors of the pattern, black and white (silver) are emblematic of the unification of the schools two segregated schools in 1971. The patterns interlock to show solidarity and a bond of strength and equality. The four diamonds are expressive of the four tenants of the Warrior Ethos. Black, white, and red are the school colors.
