Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a white vertical rectangular-shaped embroidered item arched convexly at the top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, with a background divided into eighths at center point, alternating between white and gray, displaying a white stylized Spartan head facing right, wearing a red helmet, all detailed and outlined red.  Attached above the rectangle a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border inscribed SPARTANS in red letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.      


Symbolism

Red and white are the school colors.  The Spartan is the schools mascot, signifying courage, leadership, unity, and school pride.  It further alludes to the schools encouragement in academic and athletic excellence.  Union High School was established in 1962, and received its title Union from combining Taylors Bridge/Ingold High and Franklin High.  The name Union became more significant during the 1969-1970 school year, when the schools were racially integrated.  In 1985, the 85th JROTC Battalion was formed and quickly became an integral part of the Union High School.

Description

A gold color metal and epoxied disc shaped device, 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in diameter, consisting of a white disc the outer edged with sixteen notches, displaying a gold stylized Spartan head facing right, wearing a red helmet, detailed and outlined gold, all encircled by a red designation band inscribed ACADEMICS ATTENDANCE ATTITUDE with bullets between each word, all in gold.
