It further alludes to the schools encouragement in academic and athletic excellence. Union High School was established in 1962, and received its title Union from combining Taylors Bridge/Ingold High and Franklin High. The name Union became more significant during the 1969-1970 school year, when the schools were racially integrated. In 1985, the 85th JROTC Battalion was formed and quickly became an integral part of the Union High School.
