Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

A shield shaped embroidered item, arched convexly at top, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) blue border, blazoned as follows: Argent, between a wreath of laurel, a silhouette of a crusader, all Azure. Attached above the shield, a white scroll, arched convexly at top, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border and inscribed "CRUSADERS" in blue letters. The overall dimensions are 3 3/8 inches (8.57 cm) in height by 2 3/4 inches (6.99 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Blue and white are the school colors. The crusader is the school's mascot, symbolizes a statue in Irvington, New Jersey Township, the school's location, reflect the military training of the cadets. The laurel wreath represents the academic achievements of the cadets.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 6 November 1992, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversion on 9 March 2018. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-276)

Description

A gold color metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a gold disc within a blue scroll arcing above and inscribed KNOWLEDGE to the left and to the right IS POWER in gold letters and surmounted in base by a gold open book with white pages; overall, in the center and throughout the device, a blue torch enflamed gold. 


Symbolism

Blue and white are the school's colors. The book represents the academic institution; the torch symbolizes the cadet's quest for knowledge.
