Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a red disc shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, bearing a white frontal view of a stylized covered wagon detailed Silver Gray surmounted by a Yellow peace pipe, attached at the end a red feather & a Yellow saber, point upwards diagonally placed, all above a Yellow Lamp of Knowledge, with Yellow flames.  The overall diameter is 3 inches (7.62 cm).


Symbolism

Red and White are the colors of the University.  The covered wagon is taken from the distinctive insignia and refers to the Sooner rush into Oklahoma. The peace pipe is from the Oklahoma flag.  The saber represents leadership and military training.  The Lamp of Knowledge commemorates academic achievements. The color yellow, indicative of gold, alludes to the lofty standards of the University in academic, athletic and military training.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 9 July 1971, it was amended to add the cables numbers  on 15 September 1981.  It is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversions on 26 January 2019.

Description

On a red vertical rectangular shaped metal & epoxied device rounded at top, the front view of a Sooner wagon (prairie schooner) detailed red,  being drawn by two white demi-horses, heads turn towards each other, with the red silhouette of a man in the drivers seat; all within a narrow red border.   


Symbolism

Red and White are the universitys colors. The covered wagon refers to the Sooner rush into Oklahoma. The gold alludes to the lofty standards of the University in academic, athletic and military training.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 5 January 1931, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 26 January 2019.
