Shoulder Loop Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Sable, a warrior in helm Or, on a chief lowered of the first, bordered of the last, surmounted by a pallet between two weapons saltirewise, muzzles upwards and two fouled anchors saltirewise, all Or; perched above the shield an eagle wings expanded and inverted Or. Attached to the base of the shield a Black scroll, inscribed PRO DEO ET PRO PATRIA (which translates to For God and For Country) in Gold letters.


Symbolism

Gold and black are the school colors. The warrior is the schools mascot, representing warrior strength. The crossed weapons signify Army, while the crossed anchors symbolize Navy, which form the military leadership programs of the Academy.

Description

On a rectangular shaped embroidered item arched convexly at the top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) gold border, a black stylized Spartan head in profile, detailed white; its face and helmet plume gold. Attached above the rectangle, a black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) gold border inscribed “ARMY & NAVY.” Attached below the rectangle a black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) gold border inscribed “ACADEMY” all in white letters.


Symbolism

The school colors are black, white, and gold. The Spartan, or the cadet, denotes school pride and spirit as the official mascot. The plume on the Spartan’s helmet alludes to strength, commitment, and achievement; the brilliance that awaits each young cadet at the Army and Navy Academy. The geometric precision and structured shape of the Spartan image suggests the framework of the school’s educational approach.
