Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a circular shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/16 inches (.16 cm) border maroon border, above a horizontal saw-tooth band, throughout, a maroon tree stump, detailed gold, imbedded with a maroon axe diagonally placed, all within a yellow circular designation band, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Maroon border, the arched inscription "McCREARY CENTRAL" and below "HIGH SCHOOL" in maroon. Overall diameter is 3 inches (7.62 cm).


Symbolism

Maroon and gold are the colors of McCreary Central High School. The saw-tooth band, the Indian sign for running water alludes to Cumberland Falls, a local scenic area. The tree and axe are indicative of lumber production, a predominant industry activity within Streams and McCreary counties.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 29 August 1980, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversions on 17 January 2018. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-1184)

Description

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 11/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Sanguine, above a pickaxe and shovel saltirewise, axe-head and shovel head downwards, a Lamp of Knowledge enflamed, all Or; a base crested of the last. Attached to the sides and below the shield a gold arced scroll inscribed McCREARY CENTRAL in black letters.


Symbolism

Maroon and gold are the colors of McCreary Central High School. The crossed pick and shovel allude to the industrial activities in the geographic location of the school. The Lamp of Knowledge represents enlightenment and leadership. The saw-tooth base denotes the Indian sign for running water, which is symbolic of Cumberland Falls, a local scenic area.
