Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

A vertical rectangular embroidered item, arched outwardly at the top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, consisting of tri-parted background in a Y shape, blue at top, green to the left and red to the right, displaying an yellow vertical placed sword through the center, point up, surmounted on the blade by a yellow lamp with flame. Overall dimensions 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width.


Symbolism

The tri-campus detachment is symbolized by the tri-parted background.  The colors blue, green and red represent all three schools.  The sword alludes to leadership and military training; the lamp denotes knowledge and learning. 


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 4 February 1969, it was cancelled due to a new design authorized 16 May 1985. It is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU colors conversion on 6 February 2019.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-5)

Description

A gold color metal and epoxied disc shaped device 1 1/8 inches (3.81 cm) in height overall consisting of a background tri-parted in a Y shape, blue at the top, green to the left and red to the right bearing a gold bear walking; attached below the disc an arched gold scroll inscribed FORGED GOLD in blue letters.                                        


Symbolism

The tri-parted background and the colors blue, green and red alludes to the three schools that make up the ROTC Detachment.  The bear symbolizes the State of California and the schools location.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 4 October 1985, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 6 February 2019.
