Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

Centered on a green vertical semicircular embroidered item 4 inches (10.16 cm) in width below the words MATTOON HIGH inscribed concentrically in gold letters, the gold silhouette of half a cogwheel containing a silhouetted factory building in green above a gold shear of wheat.


Symbolism

Gold and green are the school colors. Gold signifies excellence and green symbolizes youth. The wheat spear alludes to Mattoons location at the heart of a rich agricultural area. The gear wheel and factory building suggests the towns importance as a transportation and industrial center.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 22 December 1961, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU colors conversions on 28 January 2019. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-1248)
