Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a white horizontal rectangle arced convexly at the top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) orange border, a black diagonal band from upper to lower right charged with three white discs surmounting and above an orange demi-bearcat affronte detailed black and white. Attached above the rectangle, a white scroll with a narrow orange border inscribed WILLIAM PENN in blue letters.  Attached below the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a narrow orange border inscribed BEARCATS in blue letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inch (8.89cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) width.


Symbolism

Blue and orange are the school colors. The bearcat is the school mascot. The Black diagonal band charged with three White discs is taken from the arms of William Penn and denotes the schools name sake.


Background

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was originally authorized 10 May 1996, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversion on 12 December 2017. (TIOH Drawings Number A-10J-4874)

Description

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches  (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Per fess Azure and Tenne a heraldic rose en soleil Argent ensigned by a lamp of the like out of a torse Silver and Blue.  Attached below the shield, a Blue scroll inscribed WILLIAM PENN in Silver letters.


Symbolism

Blue and orange are the school colors. The heraldic rose en soleil is the badge of York and reflects the location of the school. The lamp of knowledge symbolizes the cadets commitment to education.
