On a light blue vertical rectangular embroidered item a red diagonal bar, from viewers upper right to lower left, surmounted in the center with a White rams head couped to the right, detailed and outlined Silver Gray. Attached at top, a red scroll inscribed WEST VALLEY and attached at base a red scroll inscribed RAMS in White letters; all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) White border. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35cm) in width. 

Scarlet, Columbia blue (Blue Turquoise) and white are school colors. The ram is the schools mascot.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 6 July 1979. It is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversions on 1 June 2017. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-1245).

A Gold color metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, blazoned as follows:  Per pall reversed Azure, Or and Gules, in the first issuant from a stylized mountain range a demi-sun of the second; in the second three hemlock trees Vert and in the third two hands clasped fesswise, throughout of the second.  Attached below the shield, a Gold bi-parted scroll inscribed to the viewers left REACHING FOR, HIGHER GOAL to the right, in Green letters.

The sun setting over the valley alludes to the schools name and location in the West. The hemlock is the state tree of Washington, reflecting the West Valley High School location. The clasping hands symbolizes the spirit of cooperation in learning demonstrated by the staff and ROTC cadet.
