Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border, blazoned as follows: Gyronny of eight enarched Or and Purpure, in fess point a square counterchanged. Attached above the item a purple scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border inscribed “FITZGERALD” in black. Overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 7/8 inches (7.3 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Purple and gold are the school’s colors. The torqued vectors suggest the swirling winds of a hurricane, the mascot of the school, conveying the momentum and power of the cadets. The overlaid square alludes to the weather flag for a hurricane reinforcing the theme.

Description

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in eight blazoned as follows: Sable, a bend sinister Or charged with three hurricane symbols Purpure and in base a gore sinister of the last; a canton Or charged with a square Purpure. Attached below the shield, a black scroll doubled purple bearing the inscription “HURRICANES” in gold.


Symbolism

Purple and gold are the school colors. The canton resembles the weather flag for a hurricane, while the bend sinister continues the reference to the school’s mascot with three hurricane symbols. The gore sinister resembles a crashing wave, portraying the profound effect the cadets have on their school and community.
