Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a circular shaped embroidered item, the background divided in quarters, black and white, a stylized pirate head cropped at shoulders, facing the viewer, clutching a dagger in his teeth, all Proper, all within a red designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border inscribed “APPLING COUNTY” above and “HIGH SCHOOL” below in white. Overall diameter is 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm).


Symbolism

The pirate, the school’s mascot, is a fierce and cunning warrior who utilizes any and all available assets and strategies to achieve their goals. Black, red, and white are the school colors.

Description

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm)  in height blazoned as follows: Quarterly Sable and Gules, in first quarter an open book; in second quarter a winged foot, in third a lamp enflamed, entoured by a laurel wreath, and in fourth quarter, a stylized atomic symbol, all Argent (Silver). Attached below the shield, a black scroll doubled white bearing the inscription “FORTIS ET FIDELIS” in silver.


Symbolism

The open book signifies an open mind and a willingness to learn new and challenging things. The winged foot denotes athleticism. The laurel wreath surrounding the lamp of knowledge conveys the honorable academic pursuit. The atomic symbol portrays science and technology. The motto “FORTIS ET FIDELIS” translates to “Strong and Faithful." The school colors are black, red, and white.
