Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, blazoned as follows: Azure, issuant from base a stylized Colonel’s bust Argent, in ¾ profile to sinister, hair Argent (Silver Gray), hat of the second, garnished Gules, neck tie of the fourth; all detailed and fimbriated of the first. Attached above the shield a blue scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, inscribed “COLONELS” in white. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Red, white, and blue are the school colors. The colonel is the school’s mascot and Represents the heritage of Kentucky.

Description

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Azure, a chevron debase Gules, overall a torch in pale enflamed Argent (Silver), between in dexter chief an open book entoured by two annulets saltirewise and in sinister chief a lyre, all of the third. Attached to the sides of the shield two silver scrolls, one on either side, with the inscription, “GET REAL” and “GET READY” in blue letters.


Symbolism

Red, white, and blue are the school colors. The chevron suggests strength, support, and the motivation to achieve greatness in academics. The torch is a classic symbol which represents enlightenment through education. The open book surrounded by the two rings
denotes science and mathematics, while the lyre is emblematic of the arts.
