Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a white vertical rectangular shape embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, a stylized gold leopard’s head in profile, facing to the right, outlined black with black and white details. Attached above the triangle, a gold scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, inscribed “LAKEWOOD” in black letters.
Attached below the triangle, a gold scroll edged with a 1/8 inch black border inscribed “LEOPARDS” in black letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/4 inches (8.26cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Black, white, and gold are the school colors. Black represents humility and strength, while gold signifies vigor and magnanimity. The school’s mascot, the Leopard, is depicted here snarling in anticipation of battle. The leopard symbolizes the concept of accepting one’s spots and utilizing them as a strength.

Description

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Quarterly Sable and Argent, a cross of chains Or, between in the first quarter an enflamed lamp of knowledge, in the second quarter two gears bendwise, smaller one closer to chief, in the third quarter a winged foot of Mercury bendwise, toe downwards to sinister, and in the fourth quarter a lyre; all of the third. Attached below the shield is a
black scroll, with the inscription “TOUJOURS EN AVANT” in gold letters.


Symbolism

Black, white, and gold are the school colors. Black represents humility and strength, while gold signifies vigor and magnanimity. The division of the quadrants with a chain is symbol of the unity, teamwork, and strength required to sustain Lakewood High School’s high standards for education.  The lamp of knowledge is a common symbol used to signify higher education and refers to the concept that the honest person possesses both truth and knowledge. The gear wheels refer to progress, power, and service work in action. The winged sandals convey athletic prowess and protection as one travels through life. The lyre signifies wisdom and moderation as an attribute of Apollo, the god of prophecy and music.
