Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, blazoned as follows: Gules, a hawk’s head couped to sinister Proper between three mullets, two in chief and one in base Argent. Attached below the shield, a red scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, inscribed “NORTH VALLEY” in white. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Red and black are the school colors for North Valley Military Institute. The hawk is the school’s mascot. The three stars refer to the school’s Latin motto, “Per Ardua Ad Astra,” which translates to, “Through adversity to the stars.”

Description

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Sable, a saltire Gules, fimbriated Argent, in chief an enflamed lamp of knowledge, in dexter a wreath of laurel, in sinister an eagle in flight fesswise, in base a globe; all in silver. Attached below the shield, a black scroll, doubled red, inscribed “PER ARDUA AD ASTRA” in silver letters.


Symbolism

Red and black are the school colors. The four sections of the shield denote North Valley Military Institute’s four pillars of excellence. The lamp of knowledge refers to academics, the eagle suggests leadership, the globe signifies citizenship, and the laurel wreath is indicative of athletics.
