Wrapping around and surmounting the center of device, at the base of the mountain range, a black scroll, bearing the inscription, “THE BEST IN THE WEST” in silver
letters.

Symbolism

Silver and light blue are the colors of the Washoe County School District.  Referred to as the silver state, Nevada has a significant mining history and is known for its rich mineral resources. The silver star at the top on a light blue background, refers back to the Nevada state flag and to the state’s rich history with silver. The mountain range emphasizes the grand presence of the Reno Mountains in the landscape of the area. The black scroll wraps
around the state in a similar shape to that of a lasso, plays into the concept of the district’s motto, “The Best in the West.”

Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally approved on 8 July 1993. It was cancelled due to a new design and description on March 2020.
