Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a Silver Gray vertical rectangular shaped embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom edged with an 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) maroon border, a stylized maroon mosquito detailed black, wings, eye, teeth and feet in white, facing to the right; in the top right corner a white star. Attached above the rectangle, a silver gray scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border, inscribed “SKEETER” in black letters. Attached below the rectangle, a silver gray scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border, inscribed “BATTALION” in black letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35cm) in width).


Symbolism

Marron and white are the school colors. Maroon symbolizes confidence and white represents a successful beginning. The “Skeeter” has been the school’s mascot since 1944, and reflects the aggressive aspects of the cadets in their relationship with the school, community and country. The star is representative of Texas as the “Lone Star State,” which the school is located.

Description

On a silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1-1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Quartered Gules (Maroon) and Argent (Silver Gray); in the 1st quadrant an open book surmounted by a key bendwise sinister ward to dexter base and in the 4th quadrant an atomic symbol, all Argent (Silver Gray); in the 2nd quadrant a lyre and in the 3rd quadrant a winged foot of Mercury, all Gules (Maroon). On top of the shield, upon a
torse, a lamp of knowledge all in silver. Attached below the shield, a silver tripartite scroll inscribed “VERITATEM, INTEGRE, HONORIFICE” in black letters.


Symbolism

Maroon and white are the school’s colors. Maroon symbolizes confidence and white represents a successful beginning. The lamp of knowledge signifies the importance of a good education and is placed on top of the shield as the most significant pursuit. The open book and key represents knowledge and wisdom, which are attained through reading. The stringed lyre is the traditional symbol of artistic sensibilities and also allude to harmony within a group. The winged foot of Mercury suggests athletic pursuits and the atomic symbol represents scientific studies. The motto translates to “Truth, Integrity, Honor,” expressing the principles of the Skeeter Battalion.
