Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a black rectangular shaped embroidered item arched convexly at the top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) White border, two white feathers tipped red and quilled silver crossed at the quills. In between the feathers, a red sun in splendor. Attached above the rectangle, a black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, inscribed “BALDWIN” in red letters. Attached below the rectangle, a black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, inscribed “INDIANS” in red letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm).


Symbolism

Red, black, and white are the Baldwin Middle-Senior High School colors.  The feathers,  symbolic of a Native American warrior, refer to the school’s mascot, the Indians. Positioned crossed, the feathers denote both readiness and protection: readiness for one’s future and protection of the traditions and values embodied in the JROTC program. The sun in center refers to the bright future of the cadets, as well as to the “Sunshine State” of Florida.

Blazon

On a silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Quartered Gules and Sable; in the first quarter an acorn and slip; in the second quarter a torch enflamed; in the third quarter a chess-rook; and in the fourth quarter a winged foot, all Argent (Silver Gray). Issuing from behind the shield, four silver feathers garnished red, two on each side, surmounting a black semi-circular scroll, doubled red, and inscribed “ALII UNUM CORPUS” in silver letters.


Symbolism

Red, black, and white are the Baldwin Middle-Senior High School colors. The acorn and branch in the upper left quarter symbolize how the JROTC program plants the seed of citizenship within their cadets, allowing them the opportunity to grow into a “mighty oak tree” in their community. In the upper right quarter, the torch of knowledge represents the importance of academics. Located in the lower left section, the rook refers to the historical
significance of the school building within the town of Baldwin. The winged shoe at the bottom right is expressive of the importance of athletics within JROTC. The feathers issuing out from behind the shield allude to the school’s mascot, the Indians. The Latin motto, “ALII UNUM CORPUS” translates to English, “From many come one body.”
