Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Blazon

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch  (.32 cm) Yellow border, blazoned as follows: Sable, a stylized wasp volent to sinister Or, eye and detailed Azure, edged of the second, winged, stinger and pupil of eye Argent.  Attached above the item a Black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Yellow border, inscribed “SHERIDAN” in Yellow letters. Overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Blue and gold (Golden Yellow) are the school colors. Gold symbolizes generosity and youth. Blue signifies loyalty and honesty; combined, these colors point to the cadets’ stamina and commitment to uphold the values of the program. As the school mascot, the yellow jacket (wasp) represents the perseverance, teamwork, and combativeness the program encourages among the cadets.

Blazon

On a gold metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Azure, a fess Or, overall a quill in pale of the last, point downwards. Supporters: On either side of the shield a branch of leaves Or. Attached on the sides and below the shield, a blue scroll inscribed “MAGIS IUVENES CIVES MOTIVA” in gold letters.


Symbolism

Blue and gold are the Sheridan High School colors. The background and the fess (horizontal bar) alludes to the stripes of the yellow jacket, the school mascot. The fess also symbolizes a girdle of honor, a characteristic the program upholds in the cadets’ uniform, behavior, and attitude. The quill represents the wisdom and understanding cadets use to balance their fighting spirit. The branches of leaves on either side of the shield allude to the Sheridan’s location in the dense Arkansas Timberlands. The school’s Latin motto, “MAGIS IUVENES CIVES MOTIVA” translates to, “Motivate young people to be better citizens.”
