Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Blazon

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, blazoned as follows: Quarterly Gules and Azure, two swords in saltire points upward surmounted by a knight’s helm Argent (Silver Gray). Attached above the shield, a blue scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, inscribed “ROYALS” in white. The overall dimensions are 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height by 2 3/4 inches (6.99 cm) in width.


Symbolism

The colors and division of the shield represent William C. Overfelt High School. Blue symbolizes youth and red represents strength of character. The medieval knight’s helm suggests determination and two crossed swords symbolize teamwork.

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Quarterly: I and IV barry of eleven Gules and Argent (Silver), II and III paly of nine Azure and of the second, in first quarter an open book surmounted by a torch of the second enflamed of the first; in second quarter a lion rampant Or; in the third quarter a castle triple towers of the last and in the fourth quarter a knights’ helm Argent (Silver). Attached beneath the shield, a blue scroll inscribed “OVERFELT ROYALS” in silver letters.


Symbolism

The shield is divided quarterly to represent the four grade levels of the school. Red, white, blue are the colors of the Royal Battalion. Blue symbolizes youth and red represents strength of character. The knight is the William C. Overfelt High School mascot and the rampant lion reflects the cadet’s fierce dedication to school, community, and country. The open book and torch symbolize the cadet’s strong work ethic and desire to learn
