Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a blue vertical rectangular shape embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, a buff Native American chief’s head in profile, facing to the right, a red streak of paint on his cheek, garbed in headdress, detailed white and red. Attached above rectangle, a blue scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, inscribed “MADISON CENTRAL” in white letters. Attached below rectangle, a blue scroll inscribed “HIGH SCHOOL” in white letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Red, white, and blue are the school colors of Madison Central High School. The Indian is the school’s mascot which signifies strength and honor demonstrated by the Shawnee tribe who was indigenous to the central Kentucky region. The chief figure reflects the cadet’s leadership qualities and dedication to school, community, and country.

Blazon

On a silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height, consisting of a White arrowhead point up, it’s flutes radiating to a red demisphere above a Blue base. Attached below the arrowhead two silver scrolls, the left scroll bearing the inscription “ONE TRIBE” and the right scroll bearing the inscription “ONE TEAM”, all in blue letters.


Symbolism

Red, white, and blue are the school colors. Red conveys courage and blue is symbolic of loyalty. The arrowhead reflects the Native American warrior spirit of determination and courage displayed by the cadets in pursuing academic achievement and community service. The flutes of the arrowhead radiating around a demi-sphere, suggest the sun and represent enlightenment through education. The rays point upward over the native Kentucky soil and denote the high standards of the students.
