Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a circular shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) gold border, a white background displaying a black silhouette of a Spartan’s helmet facing to the front, detailed in gold upon a gold laurel wreath in base; all within a black circular designation band, inscribed HOLLYWOOD HILLS” at the top and “MILITARY ACADEMY” at the bottom all in gold letters. The overall diameter is 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm).


Symbolism

Black and gold are the school colors. The helmet represents the school’s mascot Spartans and the laurel wreath symbolized the highest standards of education.

Blazon

On a gold metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Quarterly Argent and Sable, in chief an open book of the first bound of the second; III, a lyre and IV, a lamp of knowledge, overall a torch in pale throughout winged fesswise and emitting a flame, all Or, all within a bordure of the last; ensigned above the shield, an ancient Greek helm Or. Attached below the shield, a black scroll inscribed “WE ARE SPARTANS” in gold letters.


Symbolism

Black and gold are the school colors. The winged torch represents the highest standards of achievement and physical endurance. The open book stands for academic rigor. The lyre signifies expressing individual talent and creativity. The lamp of knowledge denotes enlightenment and constancy that guides the Spartan cadets through graduation and beyond.
