Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Blazon

On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border, blazoned as follows: Quarterly Purpure and Or, a cross quarterly counterchanged. Attached above the Shield, a purple edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border inscribed “CARTERSVILLE” in black. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89cm) in height by 2 7/8 inches (7.3 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Purple and gold are the school colors. The counterchanged cross over a quartered background resembles the weather flag code for hurricane, two stacked square flags each with a square in the center, which alludes to the school’s mascot of the Hurricanes.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 19 August 2019.

On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inch (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Purpure, a cross of chains between in dexter chief a stylized atom; in sinister chief an open book, in dexter base a lyre, and in sinister base a winged foot, all Or. Attached below the shield, a black scroll bearing the inscription “A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE” in gold.


Symbolism

The stylized atom signifies science and technology. The open book denotes literature and education. The lyre characterizes the arts, while winged foot is emblematic of athletics. The cross of chains portrays strength, determination, and cooperation as well as the bond between the cadets of the JROTC program.
