Symbolism

The four quadrants refer to the four grammar schools from which all Valley Central High School students begin their formal education, and blue and white signify the school colors. The flags crossed at staffs suggest the Viking Battalion’s commitment to community service through the organization’s color guard team. The orange tree, represented in the Orange County seal, refers to the location of Valley Central High School. The torch denotes conveyance of knowledge and instruction within JROTC, lighting the path and inspiring cadets to be better citizens. The torch further alludes to the pursuit of academic excellence. Mjölnir is a Viking symbol that characterizes power, strength, and bravery. The ocean waves supporting the shield further suggests the seafaring Vikings. The red scroll bearing the school motto “No Excuses,” refers to the cadet’s determination and passion to always be accountable for their actions and deeds.
