Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a green vertical rectangular shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) black border, a black “V” shape throughout, entwined with a green alligator, detailed and fimbriated black, all edged silver gray; the alligator displaying a white underbelly, eye and teeth. Attached above the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, inscribed “VICKSBURG” in black letters. Attached below the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, inscribed “HIGH SCHOOL” in black letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height by 2 3/4 inches (6.96 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Green and white are the school colors. The school’s mascot is the “Gator”.  Green represents energy, growth, and renewal. White symbolizes sincerity and faith. The school encourages these traits to cultivate and build an environment that is supportive and nurturing to the cadets. As the school’s mascot, the gator signifies survival instincts and the pursuit of new knowledge. The “V” shape conveys the letter “V” which identify the school’s name, Vicksburg.

Blazon

On a silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Tierced in pairle Vert, Sable and Argent in chief an alligator’s head erased to sinister Argent (Silver); in sinister, a key bend sinisterwise, wards upward and to sinister of the fourth and in dexter mullet of the second above an embattlement issuant from base of the fourth, masoned of the second. Attached below the shield, a green scroll inscribed “PROMOTING EXCELLENCE” in silver letters.


Symbolism

The shape of the shield is loosely adapted from the State of Mississippi coat of arms. The three divisions of the shield represent the geographical region of the city of Vicksburg, which is located in the confluence of the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers. Green and white are the school’s colors. Black highlights the traits of wisdom and constancy passed on to cadets. The masoned wall and star signify the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ presence in the school’s ROTC program. The silver key refers to the city’s historical role as the key of the South during the American Civil War, as well as symbolizing the school as the key of unlocked growth and path to success for the cadets.
