Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a vertical rectangular shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, a purple honeycomb pattern detailed yellow, surmounted by the top view of a stylized hornet displayed, black outlined yellow, with yellow eyes, wings and details on abdomen, bearing a modified purple “H” upon its thorax. Attached above the rectangle, a black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, inscribed “HIRAM” in yellow letters. Attached below the rectangle, a black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, inscribed “HORNETS” all in yellow letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (5.8 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Purple and yellow are the school colors. The hornet is the school mascot, representing the capable determination of the cadets to exceed in educational and military duties. The honeycomb pattern signifies commitment and high expectations for personal growth for all students to succeed with their rigorous program.

Blazon

On a gold color shield-shaped metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) inches in height blazoned as follows: Sable, on a pile Purpure between two lightning bolts pilewise Or, three bars arched of the last. Attached below the device a purple scroll inscribed “HIRAM HIGH SCHOOL” in gold letters.

 


Symbolism

Purple and yellow are the school colors. The three gold arched bars symbolize academic excellence, highlighting the growth of each student to make a difference in the world. The pile alludes to the cadets’ resourceful impact, conveying the merger of Hiram and Paulding High Schools in 1968 and its re-establishment in 1999 at its present location. The lightning bolts denote their swiftness to complete any task assigned.
