Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a red vertical rectangular-shaped embroidered item arched convexly at the top and bottom, a white vertical stripe surmounted by a shield blazoned as follows: Azure, a mullet Argent; all within a diminished bordure of the last.  Attached above the rectangle, a white arched scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) blue border inscribed “BERKMAR” in blue letters.  Attached below the rectangle, a white arched scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) blue border inscribed “PATRIOTS” in blue letters.  The overall dimensions are 3-1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2-1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width. 


Symbolism

The school colors are red, white, and blue, signifying the spirit and pride of Berkmar High School.  The shield bearing the star suggests the school’s mascot, the Patriot.  The star further alludes to academic excellence, and its brilliance encourages students to become outstanding citizens within their community.

Blazon

On a silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1-1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Quarterly Azure and Argent, in the first quarter four mullets fesswise, two and two; in the second quarter a gear wheel; in the third quarter a stylized theater mask; and in the fourth quarter a winged foot bend sinisterwise, toes to base, all Argent (Silver). Surmounted above the shield a demi-torch Argent (Silver), enflamed Gules. Attached below the shield, a red scroll doubled white inscribed “ALWAYS BELIEVE IN THE B” in silver letters.


Symbolism

The school colors are red, white, and blue, signifying the spirit and pride of Berkmar High School.  The stars refer to the nation’s flag, as well as the school’s mascot, the Patriot.  The gear wheel alludes to the STEM program.  The drama mask suggests the theater and arts program, and the winged foot symbolizes excellence in athletics.  The torch denotes Gwinnett County’s College and Career Academies that provide higher education for students.  The school motto, “Always Believe in the B” encourages students to believe in themselves and their ability to succeed.
