Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a maroon circular shaped embroidered item, edged with a 3/32 inches (.24cm) white border, an eight pointed star encircled by a horizontally placed ring, superimposed with two disc on each end, all between, at top, two indented bars of three points and at base two horizontal bars, all white; all encircled by a maroon designation band, inscribed at the top “ABOVE THE REST” and “HAZLEHURST HS” at the bottom, all within a 1/8 inch (.32cm) white border. Overall diameter is 3 inches (7.62cm).


Symbolism

Maroon and white are the school colors. Maroon symbolizes determination of spirit and passion for excellence demonstrated by cadets while pursuing their goals. White denotes accuracy and clarity. The eight-pointed star indicates students’ integrity within the school and community. The ring encircling the star with the two disc alludes to science and technology. The two indented bars above and two horizontal bars below illustrate mountains and farmlands of the area.

Blazon

On a silver color metal and epoxied shield-shaped device 1-1/8 inch (.32cm)  in height consisting of shield blazoned as follows: Quarterly Murrey and Sable, in fess point a mullet of eight points between in the first quarter, a mullet of eight pointed above two laurel branches saltirewise at stem base; in second quarter, a lamp of knowledge; in the third quarter a quill pen bendwise, point to base and in fourth quarter, a winged foot bend  sinisterwise, toe to base, all Argent (Silver). Attached below the shield a maroon scroll, doubled black and inscribed “HAZLEHURST” in silver letters.


Symbolism

Maroon and white are the school colors. The quartered division of the shield is adapted from the school’s emblem. Maroon symbolizes determination of spirit and passion for excellence demonstrated by cadets while pursuing their goals. Black conveys strength of character and perseverance. The eight-pointed star indicates the students’ integrity within the school and community. The second smaller eight-pointed star represents the expansion of knowledge demonstrated by the cadet in performance of their duties. The laurel signifies victory of overcoming adversity. The lamp alludes to enlightenment through knowledge. The quill pen signifies academic achievements; the winged foot suggests the athletics activities.
