Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a black disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, the overall dimensions 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm), an orange cross patty surmounted with a ring of white chain and overall a white torch flamant yellow, all within an orange designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border and inscribed in black letters "AUSTIN" at top and "HIGH SCHOOL" at bottom.

Symbolism
Burnt orange and black are the school colors. The cross patty symbolizes the cadets at the crossroads of education and their involvement "fanning" out into school, family, community and country. The ring of chain denotes their unity as a battalion. The torch reflects their abilities as leaders.

Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 8 May 1996, it is currently being amended to update the manufacturing drawings and to add the ACU color conversions on 20 November 2018.

Description

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Gyronny of nine Tenn and Sable, a base arched of the last. Attached above the shield, a black scroll bearing the inscription CADETS TODAY in silver. Attached below the shield, a gray scroll bearing the inscription LEADERS TOMORROW in silver.


Symbolism

The arched base suggests a horizon, while the piles resemble rays to allude to the early light of a new dawn. Together, these symbols express the start of the cadets journey in life and the adventures along the way. Burnt orange and black are the schools colors.
