Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a vertical, Green rectangle arched convexly at top and bottom, overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in width an insignia blazoned: Vert, a pointer bird dog Proper facing sinister. Attached above the rectangle, a Green scroll inscribed "VAN BUREN" in White letters and edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) White border. Attached below the rectangle, a Green scroll inscribed "HIGH SCHOOL" in White letters and edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) White border.

Symbolism
Green and white are the school colors. The pointer bird dog is the school mascot and is symbolic of the Van Buren area, which lies in the foothills (Arkansas River Valley) of the Ozark Mountains. Locals used the pointer bird dog in hunting for game to sustain life in the early days.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 11 September 2001.

Description
A silver color metal and enameled device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in width overall consisting of a green vertical diamond shape, bearing a silver vertical diamond shape, displaying a gray pointer, between four white stars at each vertex.  Above the diamond, two pointers proper running upwards towards a silver star at center top vertices.  Attached to the base a white scroll inscribed VAN BUREN HIGH SCHOOL in silver letters.

Symbolism
The Green diamond shape represents the Arkansas Ozark Mountains. The diamond charged with four white stars signify:  (1) the Van Buren community established in 1818, (2) the early settlers to this area, (3) Thomas Philips who purchased the land rights and (4) the school district founded in 1927.  The pointer bird dog is the schools mascot, which was used in hunting game to sustain life in the early pioneer days.  The star at the top represents the early pioneer spirit.

The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 20 June 2014.
