Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
A yellow rectangular shield-shaped device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) inch black border, the overall dimensions 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in height and 2 1/8 inches (5.40 cm) in width, six scarlet horizontal stripes surmounted by a black lion rampant.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 11 March 1975.
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves red over yellow, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound. Attached below the shield an arced red scroll inscribed "LOS ANGELES USD" in gold letters.
The shoulder loop insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931. It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a motto scroll.
