Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a black shield, 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) high overall, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border a white knight on a white horse grasping a lance in right hand detailed black. The knight's cape lined yellow, horse's blanket and bridle yellow. Attached above the shield a black scroll inscribed "RIO LINDA" in yellow letters and edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border.

Symbolism
Yellow and black are the school colors. A knight on horseback is the school mascot which represents strength, pride and tradition.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 21 April 1998.

Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Sable two lances in saltire between in chief an atomic symbol, to dexter a winged foot, to sinister a feather quill superimposed on a scroll palewise and to base a lamp enflamed all Or. The shield perched upon a Gold color scroll inscribed "RIO LINDA" in Black letters and supporting a Gold vertical ellipse charged with a helm attired with a winged crest of the like and mantled in Gold to each side.

Symbolism
Yellow and black are the school colors. The scroll and feather quill signify excellence in education and academic matriculation. The atomic symbol represents the scientific background of Rio Linda Senior High School. The winged shoe symbolizes the athletic endeavors of the cadets and the flaming lamp alludes to knowledge through leadership.
